A two night event is being brought to those who watch SyFy Alice. It premires on Dec 6, 2009 at 9 p.m.

SyFy’s about the show:

Using the classic Lewis Carroll books Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass as a jumping off point, writer/director Nick Willing has created the modern-day story of Alice Hamilton (Caterina Scorsone), a fiercely independent twenty-something who suddenly finds herself on the other side of a looking glass. She is a stranger in an outlandish city of twisted towers and casinos built out of playing cards, all under the rule of the deliciously devilish Queen of Hearts (Oscar winner Kathy Bates) who’s not very happy about Alice’s arrival. In the course of her adventure, Alice enlists the help of an array of characters including the resistance fighter Hatter (Andrew-Lee Potts), resistance leader Dodo (Tim Curry) and the White Knight (Matt Frewer). Rounding out the stellar cast are Colm Meaney as the King of Hearts, Harry Dean Stanton as Caterpillar, Alessandro Juliani as 9 of Clubs, Timothy Webber as Carpenter, Alex Diakun as Ratcatcher, and Eugene Lipinski as Doctors Dee and Dum. For this re-imagined adaptation, writer/director Nick Willing mines the bizarre ingenuity and twisted logic of Carroll’s work to create a daringly different, boldly colorful and delightfully skewed dreamscape of his own. Willing also directed the record-breaking, Emmy-winning miniseries Tin Man for Syfy in 2007. Serving as executive producers for this ambitious new event are Matthew O’Connor and Lisa Richardson from Reunion Pictures, Jamie Brown from Studio Eight and RHI Entertainment’s Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr.

I can’t wait to see how they do with this miniseries if it is anything like Tin Man it will definitly have a place on my movie shelf. Stay tuned to see what I have to say on Monday

Peyton Place by Grace Metalious

Peyton Place took place in a small New England town and rocked the world to it’s core when it came out in 1956, it was a book that women had hiden in their bags afraid to discuss but if you caught it just right you could see huddles of women discussing the book. 60,000 copies sold within the first 10 days of it’s release. Grace rocked the world back then and I think her book still shakes people to it’s core even now.  My guess is Grace just showed people what they already knew was going on.  That people were far from saints.  So if you haven’t read it take the time to check it out.

Update: I’ve been looking in to Ms. Metalious and she seemed to have many problems after the book came out.  And it makes me wonder if the Hollywood bug infected her badly.

I know everyone has a specific genre that they tend to read towards.  Mine would definitely have to be mystery, suspense. If it has a good story line that can grab my attention in the earlier portions of the book then generally I will be hooked when it is one of these books that is too descriptive I have trouble I mean who wants to read what color someone is wearing 6 ways to Sunday.  I get what they are saying but is the minor details really necessary.

Henry Parker Britland IV is wealthy and worldly – a beloved former president who, still youthful, is enjoying early retirement. His new wife, Sunday, is beautiful, smart and seventeen years younger than he, and has just been elected to Congress in a stunning upset victory that has made her the darling of the media. Henry and Sunday make a formidable team of sleuths – and never more so than when they set out to solve crimes occurring among their friends in political high society. When Henry’s former secretary of state is indicted for the murder of his mistress, Henry and Sunday suspect he is taking the fall for a crime of passion he did not commit. But why? With cases ranging from a crime on the presidential yacht to a kidnapping that brings Henry back to the White House as he races against time to unravel the plot, there is never a dull moment for the ex-president and his bride – or the reader.

This is another good book that I had started prior to Long Time Gone I really liked it. As Henry was a president so it gives some insight to a president after he leaves the office . The crime commited couldn’t make the confused look even guiltier. Did he do? does he not recall it? Or is it all a scam another great book by Mary Higgins Clark
